With a connection to the land that is inherent to the origin of our winery, Bodegas LAN is full of meaning. Named after the initials of the three provinces in D.O.C.a Rioja: Logroño (now La Rioja), Álava and Navarra, LAN has shown respect for the land we hail from – as well as our history – since our inception in 1972. Because of our winery’s pioneering spirit and unwavering quest to be faithful to our origins, LAN has become one of Rioja’s benchmark wineries. Standing by the principle that winemaking starts in the vineyard, our active responsibility translates into an ongoing search for excellence and innovation in each and every one of the stages of production and aging of our wines. Our winery’s pioneer approach to aging in the highest-quality oak barrels, crafted by the world’s best coopers – including French, American, Russian and hybrids – is selected to provide unique and recognizable signs of identity to our range. We strive to seamlessly blend the best of Rioja tradition with modern winemaking through the LAN family of wines.
“Most of Rioja’s vines sit beneath the shelter of Sierra Cantabrian Mountains, limiting the strongest effects of the frigid northern Atlantic, and opening towards the sunny southern breezes arising from the Mediterranean,” explains Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Doug Frost. “But great estates, like Bodegas LAN, have uniquely prime spots within this ancient, favored clime: the old vines follow along the lazy Ebro River, moderating temperatures and encouraging air flow. It’s why these particular vines have grown so old; they sit in a perfect spot. But it’s also why the wines produced from their grapes have such richness and balance.”
